So what does that mean? It means that this comic deals with the life of a Middle Ages enthusiast who plays in the SCA (Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.). "Current Middle Ages" is an SCA slogan. The comic bears some vague resemblance to some events in the life of the author, who is also an SCA member.

In the SCA it is the custom to use a name different from your legal name, to help you feel part of a mediæval society rather than a 21st century one. Therefore it seems prudent to the author to set up this page as a convenient reference, because characters will be referred to by several names in the comic. Since this can be confusing in real life, it is likely to be confusing to new readers of the comic as well.
